Spa Guard Module was, conceived, designed, and built by us at Hot Tub Doctors. The Spa Guard Module is not available for sale
from anywhere else. We took time to design and test our units before fitting them to customers systems over three years ago
and we have not had a single failure of the Spa Guard Module or the air source heat pumps that they are connected to.
Why Fit Spa Guard Module
Spa Guard Module is fitted for several reasons.
- Spa Guard Module Allows virtually any Hot Tub or Swim Spa System to talk to virtually any inverter heat pump regardless of age. This means that customers do not have to invest in new computers and control pads to upgrade their Hot Tubs or Swim Spas. This alone dramatically reduces fitting costs.
- The Spa Guard Module allows you to choose what heats your hot Tub or Swim Spa. This is now done by Wi-Fi via a mobile app you can select air source heat pump only, Standard electric heater, or both invaluable to the holiday let industry on change over days where rapid heat up is needed, and normally attained in 4-5 hours from cold. Also, if one source of heat fails you have another on hand without any downtime.
- When the Hot Tub Or Swim Spa system needs to heat to a desired set temperature Spa Guard Module will wake up the air source heat pump to allow it to a soft start, as its designed to by turning on the fan first then after a few seconds turning on the compressor to allow it to heat once the temperature is reached it gently turns off the compressor and waits until the heat exchange plates have cooled before turning off the fan. Most companies that fit air-source heat pumps disconnect the Hot tub or Swim Spa heater and rely on water flow from the circulation pump to abruptly start or stop your air-source heat pump which may well display a warning message. This is just like unplugging your fridge at home and plugging it back in again to stop and start it and eventually, it will fail as this is not how it was designed to work. Another method is where they fit a constant 24-hour circulation pump so there is a constant supply of water going through the air source heat pump. This works as the air source heat pump operates correctly with no error messages but there is a major drawback, it costs as much or more than not having an air source heat pump fitted! That’s because the circulation pump will use approx. 12 kwh of energy every day and when the temperature drops in the evening and in winter the air source heat pump acts like a big metal radiator that attracts the cold and the water flowing through the unit cools the hot tub or swim spa as fast as it heats it so it is constantly on and off fighting against itself. While this may be acceptable when temperatures are above 20 degrees it is not good for all-season use.
- Spa Guard Module works differently it will only turn on the air source heat pump if heat is needed and it then turns off together with the water flow allowing all the heat generated to stay in the hot tub or swim spa where it is thermally protected. After 20-30 mins the water will cycle for a couple of minutes to see if the heat needs topping up and if it does the air source heat pump will wake up and heat. This means it is Ultra efficient and in our real-world tests, we achieved a minimum of 66% saving on heating costs year-round, a fact that our customers have confirmed with some reporting savings of 75%! This method of operation also protects the air source heat pump in the depths of winter by allowing warm water to circulate for a minute or so twice or three times an hour.
- Spa guard module handles and supplies your air source heat pump directly from the hot tub or swim spa meaning there is no need for extra electricity supplies to be installed on most air source heat pumps up to 11kw of power. This reduces the fitting costs further.
The Spa Guard Module is available from us at the time of purchasing an air source heat pump or as an add-on later. We can also retrofit the Spa guard module to an existing setup making it far more efficient.
